So here we go, September, we are ready!

This September’s solar eclipse in Virgo, represents the beginning of a cycle, and what a great time to position yourself with new goals. We’v got some helpful tips to ease into your fall transition and set yourself up for successSkin + Body + Mind:

— SKIN —

1. Mahalo is here to give your skin some love

Fall is the time of the year when our skin goes through another stage of transition. The air gets cooler and dryer, and you will feel the yearning for more moisture and calming. Be gentle, and prepare your skin to help you put your best face forward. Exfoliation is key this time of year. All those sun kissed layers will begin to fade, and if not handled properly the dead skin can block your pores creating inflammations and pimples. This is the time to help your complexion transition from the hot summer months to the demands of cooler month temperature fluctuations (outside cold, followed by drying indoor heating).

1. Boost your immune system

Immune Boosting Slaw

Staying aware and balanced plays a big part in maintaining your immune system into the colder months. Tune into nature’s changes and allow yourself to change with her.

If you haven’t already, start by transitioning into a healthy lifestyle. It can be intimidating to change your routine, shopping habits, to start reading everything on a label, but you’d be surprised to discover how rewarding and enjoyable this is. Start slow. Pick something new to change up every week and go with it. If you have a friend or family member ready to do the same, it can be helpful to have someone alongside you to lean on as well as support.

All tips below will play a factor in keeping your immune system strong for the colder months. Do what you can, and each year this transition will become much more seamless and may even become a pleasant ritual for you.

2. Cleanse

Ayurveda recommends a cleanse each season to rid of physical and emotional toxins we have accumulated during the past season. There are many to choose from in the form of a juice cleanse, colon cleanse, master cleanse, and even as simple as changing your diet and figuring out what to eat and drink in order for your body to heal. A cleanse will also boost your immune system and let it know it’s coming into a new time. After a cleanse you will feel a better flow to continue on with any transition. Best of all, happy tummy means glowing and youthful skin!

3. Maintain a healthy diet

It’s a great time to get out to your local Farmer’s Market as there is some great summer produce still out there but you should now start to introduce seasonal ingredients as well. Darker leafy greens and root vegetables are the perfect combination for soups and casseroles. Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables especially with vitamin C that will give you much nutrients that can diminish through the winter months. You may start to crave different spices, stronger, more potent and hot ones. Garlic, turmeric, cumin and ginger are but a few immune boosting wonders which can easily be incorporated into your diet. 4. Exercise

Find time to keep your heart pumping, to stay warm within. Yoga is perfect for this as it grounds, balances and relaxes the body and mind. A simple 15 minute downward dog practice along with your regular daily exercise routine will go a long way.

If you don’t already have an exercise routine, this is a great time of the year to start (not the New Year as many of you may think). The weather is still mild, and it’s a great time for our bodies to adjust and begin warming up for the colder months.

Join a gym with a friend, make it your time to catch up on the treadmill. Find a personal coach and make a plan to ease into. Whatever it is you do, remember to move throughout the winter. Keep your body warm with movement.

— MIND —

1. Rest

Get plenty of rest. Try to wake and go to sleep at the same time each day to get your body clock aligned. Our body relies on our circadian rhythm which in turns relies on consistency. And with consistency you will sleep better and therefore create a stronger immune system to fight off bugs and to heal if you do get infected.

2. Meditate

Have time to meditate. Meditation is truly a wonder and these are but a small number of benefits you get from meditating which will help with your transitions.

  • Reduces stress
  • Increases happiness
  • Boost creativity

3. Embrace Nature

Seasons are the best visual example of transition. This coming fall will let us see nature shedding her leaves, shedding the old and preparing for the next season, just as we need to shed the weight we’ve held onto and allow ourselves to get ready for the next stage.

The beginning of each season is a whirlwind of a transition where the weather is neither here nor there, and animals and plants are adapting to the new changes and shifts in temperatures. Take a walk when you can and observe Mother Nature’s wonders. She gives us plenty of hints and tips on how we should be preparing. Connect with nature, stay grounded and walk barefoot.

  • Drink herbal tea
  • Drink water. Lots of it!
