Meet the Birds of MAHALO

To me, birds have always felt like messengers between nature and spirit. To share more of what inspires me, a few Hawaiian birds have joined MAHALO as symbols of renewal, protection, vitality and grace.

Every morning my Kaua’i house is filled with melodic cacophony of their birds chatter and chirp. When I make my tea I observe a few warbling white eyes drink their morning “tea” nectar from my flowers. They became a bird spirit to join The Unveil cleanser.

Each jar and bottle is carved, sized and fitted around glass. Product information is then individually laser engraved. A process that involves many hands, and time.

For an experience of “handshake with Mother Nature”. An intentional ritual experience from the first touch.

In Hawaii bamboo ( ‘ohe) is respected. It is one of original 24 plants brought on by Polynesian explorers in their canoes because it was vital for daily life. Used as water and food vessel, musical instruments, tools and craft.

Did you know that each bamboo internode has a unique pattern and coloring?

There is more to beauty that skincare, and I’m inspired to experience exactly that. This post is about a lovely evening I spent celebrating Jane Austen’s 250th birthday at……ahem, permit me to change my prose to suite the event:

It was, by every measure, a most delightful evening upon the lawns of Pemberley, though the modern world insists upon calling it Chatsworth.

There, beneath a soft summer sky, I had the peculiar happiness of watching my dearest Pride and Prejudice brought once more to life, in celebration of the 250th birthday of its beloved author, Miss Jane Austen.

Summer solstice ☀️ a sun potency in zenith.

Few spirals 🌀 ago I spent a special week at the Sun pyramids of Teotihuacán in Mexico.

Here beauty took a form of deep transformation. Animal spirits, wisdom of the elements. Pyramid of the Sun. Pyramid of the Moon. Ancient wisdom.

Our week-long ritual immersion was lead by a powerhouse Heather Ash Amara, apprentice of Don Miguel Ruiz. Following Toltec wisdom, connecting to the both brightest parts of ourselves, and loving on our shadows.

That summer solstice day began with a full moon over The Pyramid of the Moon. Following the ceremonial journey to The Pyramid of the Sun. A journey my spirit loved.

That spiral open a big transformation portal for me that took these past 2 years of journeying through loss, grief, transformation and stabilizing myself.

Solstice is a time of incredible blessings and potency. It is a beauty of different kind.

Ladies’ Day at Royal Ascot

Growing up I adored watching Audrey Hepburn’s Eliza Doolittle in My Fair Lady.

It fascinated me to one day experience it for myself. And so I did.

A sea of gentlemen and fair ladies dressed to the nines. Not a single person in jeans or casuals. And the outfits. The hats!

The hats have a life of their own. From gravity defying architectural fascinators to sweeping, floral wide-brims, headwear at the event is a serious affair governed by strict structural rules.

The society, as they are called, is buzzing with glamour, and posh mingle at the Royal Enclosure. The atmosphere had its own posture: upright manners of rigid boarding school upbringing and relaxed laughter and cheer of a sunny day surrounded by flowers and beauty.

Standing to greet the arrival of the King and Queen I had a lovely discussion with an elderly Duke about organic farm regeneration. Very Ascot, somehow, and human.

I did not go for betting. That has never been my world. If anything, Ascot made my love for horses ache more. I have spent time around retired racehorses before, and what stayed with me was how happy they seemed not to run for human satisfaction anymore.

Well anyway. I can now check Royal Ascot off my list.

I did. I enjoyed the theatre of it all. I marveled.
